I. The History of Asian Bridge The origin of Asian Bridge dates back to February 4, 2003 with The Asian NGO Center as its precursor. The Asian NGO Center became a bridge between Korean communities and the greater Asian world. Since its establishment, it has galvanized the interest and participation of many Korean Civil Society Organizations in Asian and international issues by developing networks for international information exchange.
Due to activism and training programs, the activists have broadened their outlook and acquired professional skills. From 2003 until 2007, about 1,000 people from regional independent organizations, corporations, and universities have participated.
Activists from many Asian countries/territories such as The Philippines, Burma, Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Japan and Bangladesh participate in long and short term training programs.
The 21st century is the century of Asia. The Asian NGO center has transformed itself into ASIAN BRIDGE to become a bridge among people, between people and the world, and between people and nature. It endeavors to create alternative plans on the issues of internationalization and how to realize the values of sharing and living in harmony.
II. The Goal of Asian Bridge
The Asian Bridge hopes that a development model which combines various data/sources from ecological, cultural, and human resource communities will be developed and shared broadly amongst municipalities, regions, and networks. It also hopes that the interaction between alternative communities will lead to a world-wide community activity.
The Asian Bridge will start working on activities that will enhance cultural awareness among Asian communities through education and eco-cultural programs. We are deeply concerned about the oppressed, the poor, and the marginalized people regardless of their nationality.
